Why "read-only" isn't just a promise here

Every request this app makes to ESPN is a plain GET — the kind of request that only ever asks for data, and cannot change anything on ESPN's side. There is no code anywhere in this app that constructs a POST, PUT, DELETE, or PATCH request to ESPN — not hidden, not for a future feature, not anywhere. That's not a policy Gridiron is promising to follow; it's the only kind of request the code is capable of making. If you're comfortable reading JavaScript, the entire app is one HTML file — view source in your browser and you can check every claim on this page yourself, including the bookmarklet's exact code below.

Exactly which ESPN addresses are contacted

site.api.espn.com — public roster, injury, and schedule data (no login needed, no cookies sent)
lm-api-reads.fantasy.espn.com — your private league's roster/team/settings data (uses your existing ESPN login)
If a direct request for ESPN's public data (or the weather) is blocked, the same public request is retried through a public relay: api.allorigins.win, api.codetabs.com or corsproxy.io. A relay sees only the web address, never your login or cookies. Automatic import of a public league can use one too; the bookmarklet and extension never do.

No tracking, because there's nothing to track with

This app has no backend server and no analytics of any kind — not on the ESPN connection, not anywhere. Your synced league, the statuses you set and your settings live in your own browser's local storage, on your device, and nowhere else. Nothing is sent to Gridiron's developer, because there is no server for it to be sent to. Clearing your data (League Setup → Data → Clear all saved data) deletes it completely and immediately — there's no copy anywhere else to delete.

The bookmarklet's actual source code

So you don't have to trust the description of it

The exact code the ESPN bookmarklet runs.

The extension and the assistant

On desktop Chrome, the Gridiron Connector extension does the bookmarklet's job in one click. It uses the narrowest permissions Chrome offers: it can only touch the tab you click it on, only when you click it, and it makes one GET request to ESPN. It has no code that could change a lineup, claim a player, or propose a trade. Ask Gridiron sends your question and your roster to Claude on your own Claude account, only when you press Ask. The one shared database here holds public player news that has been cross-checked before it's published, never your league, roster, or anything about you.

Answers about your lineup, injuries, pickups and rivals, from your roster and verified news.
